Mid Atlantic
Watershed Atlas, a web based community outreach program for
organizations and researchers who take interest in the preservation of the
region's water resources. Our site, <http://www.mawa.psu.edu/>
http://www.mawa.psu.edu is a portal that serves as both a data search
engine
and collaborative tool for highlighting your work throughout the
Mid-Atlantic.
Here are a
few key facts on the system's features (see Video tutorials under
the HELP for more details):
SHARE-this
feature will allow you to interactively place a tag on the map
where you want to briefly describe your work. The system will email you a
form to fill out and then your information goes into the search engine's
database. Be sure that your SPAM filter does not block your receipt of the
message. This is ideal if you have web-links to projects in a range of
locations. Ideally, you should provide a URL, use brief project titles and
give 3-4 sentences for each entry. You can advertise your research groups,
research sites, or other activities quickly and briefly. All entries are
reviewed prior to posting on the MAWA site.
SEARCH-this feature will identify community members who post their
information (see SHARE above), search the millions of time series from the
HydroSeek database (including USGS, EPA, Chesapeake Information Systems),
allow you to download high resolution aerial photography, display NHD
streams on the web-maps, and download the entire regional soils database
from the NRCS. All of the data should have download access to your desktop
and for the most reliable data feeds such as streamflow you can analyze time
series online.
We look
forward to your participation in our effort to broaden the network
of groups improving our water resources in the Mid-Atlantic region.
