Summary of Activities for the

Ecocid Technical Committee

2001

The Esocid Technical Committee (ETC) is currently working on putting the finishing touches on the Northern Pike Symposium held at the 2000 Midwest Fish and Wildlife Conference to be published in the North American Journal of Fisheries Management. Submitted papers have been sent to the journal editor. Attendance at the summer 2001 meeting in July was low and we spent our time discussing future endeavors for the committee. Papers presented at the meeting covered topics such as winter harvest of northern pike, spawning site selection of pike in Indiana lakes, proposed genetic research designed to improve stocking performance in Illinois reservoirs, and shoreline improvements designed to protect or enhance esocid habitat in Wisconsin lakes. Efforts are being made to improve the ETC web page by providing electronic versions of past synopses on stocking and regulations. At the winter meeting Dan Isermann replaced Paul Cunningham as the current ETC chair. Dr. John Casselman provided some results of the ongoing scale-aging project; many ETC members are participating as scale readers on the project. The 2002 summer meeting of the ETC will be held again at the Kemp Natural Resources Station near Woodruff, WI. The theme for the meeting will be: “Assessment and Management of Esocid Habitats”. Persons interested in attending the meeting or presenting papers should contact Dan Isermann at disermann@hotmail.com or 605-688-4787.
