MOAFS Student Scholarship Tournament - 2002

The 2002 MOAFS Student Scholarship Tournament was held April 20 at Lake of the Ozarks State Park, PB2 boat ramp, on Grand Glaize Arm, Lake of the Ozarks.  A total of 26 teams participated in the event. Net proceeds from the tournament was $2,130.  This was a lower turn-out than was hoped for but not a bad turn-out considering that 12 other tournament were held that day on Lake of the Ozarks, including a WalMart tournament that drew 164 boats.

Tournament Conditions:

Lake Level - 656.6, up 0.5 feet, 660 is full pool
Water Temp - low 60's
Clarity - clear, but with turbidity rising from heavy rains the night before
Weather: low 60s all day, cloudy, showers
Wind - NE 5-10
Barometer - 29.98, Falling

Out of 26 boats, 17 brought fish to the scales.  The tournament was won by the team of Scott Stonitsch and Jackson with a 5 fish limit that weighed 21.14 lbs.  This team also claimed first place big bass honors with a largemouth bass that weighed 6.18 lbs.  A total of 2 places were paid.  The team of Dale Cornelius (MOAFS Member) and Harold Austin (Dale's cousin) took 2nd place with a 5 fish limit of 14.59 lbs.   Another MOAFS member that participated in the tournament was Tim Grace who was joined by his brother.

A very special thanks goes to Bass Pro Shops/Tracker Marine for donating the 2002 Tracker Pro-V 175 which was awarded by drawing.  The team of Pete Rau & Greg Short won the draw boat.  The tournament would not have been possible without the dedicated assistance of the co-sponsor SUPERBASS.  This sponsor provided a trailer with PA and weight-in equipment and conducted the officiated for the tournament.  We also want to thank the other sponsors that donated gifts for tournament prizes:  Missouri Angler Bait & Tackle, Bonard's Big Bass Lures, Wizard Rods, Beabout's Bait & Tackle, and Bass World Sports.  There also was a BBQ at Osage Bait & Tackle for those who fished.
